Dalmation Dogs

- what sort of pets do dalmation dogs make?
We are looking to buy a dalamtion puppy, but we have a baby on the way (due in October). Are dalmations easy to train and are they good with kids?

A Hello, Firstly I think its a little mean of what people have said about Dalmatians! We own 2 Dalmatians,they were 2yrs old on the 16th of Jan,earlier this year & they are THE MOST intelligent dogs we've ever had! My mum has had from Cavaliers to Great danes,but has found the Dalmatians to be the sweetest natured. Ours have been great with us,I am 15 now & my younger brother was 10 when we got them,they would NEVER hurt us,in fact they are brilliant with Rabbits,chickens,cats etc! The only 'downfall' as most people see it,is that they do not like other dogs,especially the female Dal. They are okay with people,just don't like other dogs! We have 3 other dogs ourself,which they totally respect & have never gone for. They aren't too easy to train however! Plus they need AT LEAST 1 hour of brisk walking per day,not just a round the block type. Ours get around 1 1/2 hours walking plus 30-60 minutes to roam *supervised* in our large garden & they are still full of beans! I would say they would make great family dogs,although it will be A LOT of cope with,especially since you will have a new member of the family in October! We love them to pieces & will definitely have Dalmatians again,they are loyal & incredibly intelligent. A lot of people recommend Retrievers,but I say different! I have known of some pretty vicious ones,although to be fair some are great family dogs! :) King Charles Cavaliers are small,even tempered dogs. We had one up until 6-7 months ago,called Daisy she was 13 when she died which is a good age for this breed. Otherwise Cocker spaniels are lovely! Whatever you choose,I hope its what you dreamed of!
