- I can't get over the fact my springer spaniel dog died?
My dog Sark had to get put down when i was 8, i didn't really understand it that well but i was still upset. Today i looked in the box we put photos, lead, collar and a picture i drew of him. It all came back to me today and i am so upset. We are not allowed another dog because my mum and dad work, i have said i would look after it but they won't listen. How can i get over him?? :(

A you probably won't "get over" him, but then you probably wouldn't want to, either. What you want to work on, is remembering the good times you had, and being happy about that. That will compensate for a little bit of sadness you might feel every once in awhile.

A Hard to tell in those pics because I can't see the length of his legs, back or tail. If he has short legs, I'm thinking Springer/Beagle. If he's a larger pup, longer legs, looks like he's going to be large, Springer/Lab. This is my spaniel mix- Brittany/Lab. - Whats wrong with this Silky Terrier (photos included)?
We really want to help her to stop itching and chewing at herself. Can you help? Missy’s first problem appeared as a swelling on the right side of her neck. This was aspirated with no real conclusion. It was then biopsied and found to be a non-malignant fat mass. (may not be relevant but worth mentioning) Within a month or so Missy’s skin got very dry and flaky. This same vet said it was food allergies and then I made her homemade food for about 4 months with no improvement. Things actually got worse. She developed very oily hair and had a bad odour. I changed vets. The second vet diagnosed her with demotectic mites. A type of mite that is only found when a dogs immune system is down. The vet suspected Cushing's disease. We did a urine sample that said her cortisal was extremely high indicating that in all probability it was Cushing's. The more expensive tests (up to $1000) were not done so it is not 100% sure it is Cushing's. She has been on Advantage specifically for demotetic mites for over a year, she is also on antibiotics continually since her skin is constantly red and raw from chewing an gnawing. She eats twice as much as she used to. She drinks much more...lapping water with loud slurping noises. If it wasn’t for her appearance/gnawing and increased appetite she would seem to be a healthy energetic dog. I also have a medicated shampoo from the vet and she takes fish oil everyday. Rosalie: Thank you for the info, we have been told that the treatment for cushings is $1000 per month and that it's a 50-50 shot to work. Does that sound accurate to you? It's a heck of a lot of money to spend with so little certainty. Thats why we haven't done it and why we are trying to minimize the skin condition. Does $1000 a month sounds normal?

- Is 1 golden retriever, 1 german shepherd and 1 yorkshire dog going to be a problem?
I want to get 1 golden retriever, 1 german shepherd and a yorkshire. I want to get them as puppies but i'm concerned about whether they'd fight when they got older or what. I want to know which dog should be which gender and what I can do to keep the dogs from fighting, especially keeping the bigger ones from attacking the yorkshire.

A I can't tell if this is what you are considering or not, but do NOT get three puppies at the same time! Two would overwhelm the vast majority of people, even those great with dogs. You should get one pup first, and wait until it's at least six months old before introducing another, though waiting until a year old would be better. I think the best situation would be for the German Shepherd to be male, the other two female based on the nature of the breeds. Just make sure all are spay/neutered as soon as possible or you will have issues with fighting. Also, based on breed nature and to avoid the big ones harming the little one, the Yorkshire should be the last addition so it is introduced to a dog at least a year old and a dog at least six months old, reducing risk of fights and the little one being trampled. Have you researched the breeds carefully? As puppies both Goldens and Shepherds will reek havoc on your house. German Shepherds especially are very good dogs(my personal favorite), but they need a strong leader and lots and lots of exercise and training - failure to exercise an hour DAILY or more as needed as well as not providing mental stimulation, especially as a puppy, will result likely result in a badly behaved, destructive dog. Make sure you know what you'd be getting yourself into and are looking towards the future to be sure you can always manage and careful these dogs properly so they don't end up euthanized or in a shelter somewhere, or you don't have to rehome them somewhere down the road.

A You can position/pose each animal with a pumpkin or a gourd. Halloween props are quite cheap right now, you could also purchase a mask or something similar and position each animal with the mask. Remember to buy a few yards of felt to use for a background and a clamp-light to use for lighting! Have fun. :)

A I would use a wash cloth with some warm water on it. You can make it a game and he may love it.

A why don't you look at the AKC standard for the breed. how big are they supposed to get? oh wait, its a mutt, so its pretty much a crap shoot. they will be between the size of either dog in the mix

sheffield city council have wrote to people with dogs in the maissonetts that they have 28 days to get rid of there dogs despite dozens of people having there dogs for many years. The reason they have stated is the amount of dog mess and owners not picking it up...also there are no dog mess bins despite tenants asking for these.It seems everone is being punished for a few people. A I found this on the Sheffield Homes website which might help you to work out where you stand legally, it's in the You and Your Home leaflet: 25 You must not keep a dog or a cat in a flat or maisonette which has shared parts or a shared entrance. If you live in a small block of flats or maisonettes we will give you written permission to keep a dog or cat if all the tenants who use the same shared parts of the building have agreed to you keeping the dog or cat. If we give our permission we may withdraw it if your pet causes nuisance or upset to any of your neighbours. If we gave you written permission before 3rd April 1995 to keep a dog or cat in a block of flats containing more than 12 homes you can continue to keep that dog or cat.

A There is no guaranteed way to find out how the puppies will look like. Not every Miniature Schnauzer and Rat Terrier mix will look the same as the other. Some may look more like Miniature Schnauzers and some may look more like Rat Terriers. Some may have pointed ears and some won't. When you "take her to the vet soon", please schedule an appointment to get her spayed 8 weeks after the puppies are born to prevent her from having MORE unplanned litters like this in the future. There are enough mutts that need homes already. I should also add that I hope you make every effort to make sure that the pups go to good homes, and never mind about how much you might get for them. Since these are mutts, you won't make much. Please don't just give them to just anyone that comes along and wants one. They could be used for animal testing, dog fighting practice, and etc. You should also make sure that the new owners get them spayed and neutered as well.

A I would never ever put my dog in this kind of danger. Granted the bear will probably be more scared of your dog than anything else, but why risk it. But to answer your question: If the bear wanted to pick a fight with your Saint, your Saint would NOT have a chance. Why isn't this dog inside your house at night? A garage would even be an upgrade at this point.

We had just this past Monday adopted a Saint Bernard dog who is about two years old. She's a very sweet dog but she is very playful and starts to jump on people and won't stop regardless if you put her off of you and ignore her or if you tell her no. A Because of her size and drive level I would send her to a pro trainer to work with her and show you how to best communicate with her based on her temperament. You will just make yourself frustrated training her yourself.

A Yikes. You and your vet are going to become very good friends. Google "white Doberman", and apply that coloration (and all of the health issues that go with it) to a Rottweiler.
